Chorea--a presenting feature of giant cell arteritis.

چکیده
Chorea occurs as a hereditary or non-hereditary disorder. Nonhereditary chorea most commonly occurs in rheumatic fever (Sydenham’s Chorea) but may also be encountered in other metabolic and systemic disorders. Green House and Albuquerque listed more than forty different causes of chorea. The etiology of non-rheumatic chorea may cause diagnostic difficulties, due to its rarity. We report a 75 years old patient with giant cell arteritis presenting as chorea. Introduction Chorea occurs as a hereditary or non-hereditary disorder. Histopathologic Features of Giant Cell Arteritis in an Actinic Granuloma Lesion
The association between actinic granuloma and giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis) has been claimed by some authors. There is a hypothesis that actinic radiation has the principal role in the etiology of both diseases in a similar way. Here, we report a case of actinic granuloma that had characteristic pathologic features of giant cell arteritis in histopathologic examination without clini...
متن کاملUncommon presentation of giant cell arteritis: report of two cases with scalp necrosis.
Giant cell arteritis (GCA), the most common form of systemic granulomatous vasculitis in adults, preferentially involves large and medium-sized arteries. Scalp necrosis is a rare complication and can be the presenting feature. This report presents two patients of GCA with severe scalp necrosis as the presenting symptoms. Both the patients were treated successfully with selective debridement, lo...
متن کاملGiant cell arteritis presenting as renal vasculitis.
Giant cell arteritis commonly presents with headache, polymyalgia, and visual signs and symptoms. Other neurological, respiratory or vascular symptoms occur in 10-30% of patients. It is extremely rare for giant cell arteritis to present initially with haematuria. Here we describe a case which presented with fever and haematuria, which emphasise the need to be vigilant about the diagnosis of gia...
متن کاملGiant cell arteritis presenting as interstitial lung disease.
A 58-year-old woman had a clinical history compatible with polymyalgia rheumatica but with an unexplained interstitial lung disease. Evaluation, including biopsy specimens of temporal artery, lung, and gastrocnemius muscle, was consistent with giant cell arteritis. This case identifies giant cell arteritis as a cause of interstitial lung disease.
متن کاملGiant cell arteritis presenting as subclavian artery occlusion. A report of two cases.
Two patients with the aortic arch syndrome and biopsy-proved but asymptomatic temporal giant cell arteritis are described. Corticosteroid treatment was followed by the return of peripheral pulsation in these two patients after an interval of a few months. A review of the literature suggests that of patients where giant cell arteritis causes subclavin obstruction there is an undue predominance o...
